The Slovenian coast measures more than 40 kilometers, which ranks it among the shortest European coasts.

And yet there are more than enough opportunities for a good catch, as a whole range of delicious fish can be traced here; mackerel, cuttlefish, squid, gilthead sea bream…

Going fishing is not that easy, as you also need a certain permit for it.

You need a proper permit for recreational or sport fishing

Slovenian legislation dictates that an appropriate permit must be obtained before fishing on the Slovenian sea:

Annual permit (sport fishing)

An annual permit is required to engage in sport fishing. You can get it by becoming a member of one of the fishing associations that are members of the Association for Sport Fishing at Sea in Slovenia. You can apply for it at the association.

Weekly or daily permit (recreational fishing)

This type of permit allows you to one day or. one week of recreational fishing. Obtaining it is much easier; all you have to do is order it online. The license becomes valid about an hour after it is issued and you do not need to print it – all you have to do is save the unique code you receive on your phone.

No permit is required for fishing from the coast

Remember that for recreational fishing, if it is not carried out from a boat, a permit is not required. This allows you to gain valuable experience without unnecessary bureaucracy, which is especially useful for beginners and Sunday anglers.
