Standup paddleboarding

Swimming is a fun, relaxing activity on a large and very stable SUP board, in which we use one paddle to drive on the water. In recent years, Standup paddleboarding has received the title of the fastest growing water sport. You can carry out the activity on rivers, lakes and at sea, on calm waters and between waves, there are actually no special restrictions. Sleeping is relatively undemanding, so it is suitable for all age groups. You can also take a child on the soup and place it on the front of the board. The key is just that the child is relatively calm so as not to fall into the water. The child should be equipped with a life jacket, and both the child and the child should always use a safety rope, which is attached on one side to the leg, on the other side to the sup. This way, your child will be safe even if he or she falls into the water.

Kitesurfing and Surfing

Surfing and kitesurfing at the Lighthouse or Cape Petelin is the right place for surfing and kitesurfing. The iconic beach transforms into a springboard for wind and kite surfers on windy days.

The beach is easily accessible, which means you can bring your equipment very close by car.

Horseback riding

The love for animals and nature blends best when riding horses. The Slovenian Coast offers many paths where you can go on horseback. For both children and adults, there is almost no better experience than learning to ride. Perhaps your opportunity comes right during the holidays on the Slovenian coast: only four kilometers away from Izola or Portorož is the Medljan Farm, which is the most suitable place for riding in the near and far surroundings of Slovenian Istria. The riding club was founded in 1996 and today has about 40 active members. In the club you can learn to ride, take courses and exams, and you can choose between different horses (they boast nine Lipizzaners, four Arabs, Slovenian and Czech warm-blooded horses and some mixed breeds). Are you ready for an experience you will not forget?

Diving

Diving is a real sea adventure and is considered a pretty adrenaline sport. Getting to know the world below the water surface is an experience that leaves no one indifferent. Safety is crucial in any activity, so safe diving requires some knowledge, appropriate equipment and following the advice of diving masters. For all of you who are interested in diving and would like to get to know the underwater world, the opportunity is also offered at the renowned diving center Divestrong in Bernardin. They offer you appropriate diving equipment, education, beginner diving courses, courses for diving instructors and much more.

Sailing

Sailing is a sport that has a long tradition on the Slovenian coast, as favorable winds blow practically all year round. The least favorable wind is in summer, as a weak wind blows – the mistral. The mistral is usually a pleasant wind that blows in the Gulf of Trieste at a speed of two to three bophons. From autumn until the end of June, a strong bora wind blows, so sometimes the windy weather lasts for a whole week. The main sailing season lasts from September to mid-November and from April to the end of June.

In winter, due to lower temperatures, the weather is not the most suitable for sailing. Of course, there is no favorable wind every day, so you need to listen to the weather forecast before we go sailing on the Slovenian coast. The bora is usually strongest on the first day after the weather improves. It is best to sail in the wind, which blows from six to seven bofonos. If the wind blows with a force of more than nine bofonos, sailing is no longer possible. The strength of the wind can change quickly, so you have to be very careful at sea and not overly brave. In strong winds, rescue by boat is also impossible.

Sailing for beginners – safe sailing on the Slovenian coast

Sailing is not a sport that can be learned overnight. Experienced sailors know to say that at sea they often rescue and help sailors who thought they mastered sailing, but in reality their knowledge is far from useful. The most suitable for learning to sail are certainly sailing schools. In sailing schools they teach theory (basics of aerodynamics, hydrodynamics, meteorology, navigation, sailing techniques, maritime skills, anchor selection, route planning…) as well as practice (maneuvers or change of direction, wind or wind sailing techniques). Sailing schools offer beginner and advanced courses. The practical part takes place at sea and ensures that all individuals really learn how to operate a sailboat and face the management of a sailboat in practice.

For those who do not want to deal with the management of a sailboat, many sailing centers offer sailboat rental together with an experienced skipper and organize one- or multi-day trips according to your wishes. A day of sailing along the Slovenian coast is an indescribable experience and allows you to experience the coast from a completely different angle. The view of Portorož, Piran, Izola, Koper or Ankaran from the sea is beautiful, as is a snack on a sailboat in the Portorož salt pans. On such trips, an individual can find out if sailing is interesting enough for him and if he is, he later opts for sailing school.
